books i want adapted into tv shows

Welcome to my post! I’m continuing the books I want adapted series, this time for TV programmes! The previous edition for films is here

The Fifth Season

I think The Fifth Season would make such a good TV show! The set design would be so cool and the whole unravelling of the story would definitely work in an episodic + series format. The only thing that might be a little difficult is one of the reveals, but I think they could make it work. The multiple POVs would be cool, similar to the Shadow and Bone show. You wouldn’t get the same amount of worldbuilding but I think it could be developed as it went along, maybe with a narrator. I can just imagine the characters and fight scenes and I need to watch it.

Raybearer

This is another series that I think could work really well for TV, especially because it’s a pretty clear concept with a plot that’s easy to understand, with complex characters to root for but also question. The dynamic between all the characters would be great and I can think of a few standout scenes that everyone will be talking about because it’s so unexpected (except to the readers of course!).

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet

A bit different from the other two so far, but I think this would be a great series that could be loosely based on the book but extended to give the crew some more adventures, background and different relationships. Or it could follow on from the sequels (although I haven’t read them) and focus on different characters in the universe each season. Either way, I think it would be a fun sci-fi TV series with a little less pressure to get exactly the same as the books.

Aru Shah and the End of Time

Again, I haven’t read the rest of the series, but I can imagine that this and the sequels would make a good series. It’s a similar vibe to Percy Jackson and that’s getting adapted into a new TV show, so it makes sense to me that this could also be adapted. There’s a fast paced but easy to understand plot, a talking pigeon, monsters, mythology and humour. What more could you want?

The Black Coast

This is maybe a bit of a different one because there’s less action in the first book (although it’s definitely leading up to more in the sequel). It focuses more on two cultures trying to get along and those small but interesting interactions. However, there’s still lots of tension and plotting and some fight scenes so you definitely wouldn’t get bored. There’s also quite a lot of other POVs from different parts of the world, so I think the first season would be a good introduction to the world and hinting at the upcoming battles, just like in the book.

The Sunbearer Trials

Another book that’s been compared to Percy Jackson and The Hunger Games. I disagree slightly because I think it’s a lot more than that, but it does have the same readability and focus on the plot with trials in this case, which would make it easy to divide up into episodes. It has other stuff that makes it unique though, like the mythology and culture, trans identity and an underlying mystery that explodes at the end, and I’m sure the sequel will be a great second season!

Thanks for reading! Do you agree with any here and what other books do you want to be apdated?
