2021 Reading Goals

Happy new year! 2020 definitely wasn’t a great year, but hopefully 2021 is better for all of us! For me, 2021 is the year of turning 18, A-Level exams, finishing college and starting university! I don’t know what else will happen but I’m sure I’ll be very busy, so my reading goals won’t be too strict. Please don’t put too much extra pressure on yourself this year, we all need a break!

Read 60 Books

Spoiler for my 2020 wrap up, but I reached 61 books in 2020 and I would love to read a similar amount in 2021! I know I could have read more, since I didn’t get back into reading until about 4 months into 2020, but like I said I could be very busy this year so I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself.

Buying and Selling Books

My goal this year is to buy and sell more books! This might be weird for most people, since buying less books is normally a goal! However, since I only got back into reading last year, my bookshelf is looking very bare. So, I want to buy more books! Specifically, I would like to buy more second-hand books, either from depop or charity shops, so I’m not spending too much still. I would also like to start selling books on my depop, since I still have lots of younger YA books and textbooks lying around. I’ve been meaning to sell them for ages, but 2021 is going to be the year where I do it!

Own Voices Rep

My 2020 wrap up will be up on Sunday, so you’ll be able to see my full stats for representation then. While I have read lots of diverse books, I could definitely read more, so I want to be more mindful of that going into 2021. There are a few authors that I won’t be reading from this year after reading from them in 2020 (Stephen King for example), and lots more own voices authors that I want to read who I haven’t yet!

Genres and Series

There are some genres I haven’t explored yet that I want to in 2021! High fantasy and horror are the two genres I want to read more of. I also haven’t read much YA or middle grade, so although they won’t be a priority I might try to read more from them.

I also need to read more series! Standalones are great because I don’t need to commit to buying more than one book, but I’ve been missing out on some great series. My post on fantasy series I want to read in 2021 is a start.

Thanks for reading! What are your goals for 2021?
