Hey, welcome to my post! Today I want to talk about my favourite books that I read in 2020. I have mentioned some of these books a lot because I’ve loved them so much (okay maybe just 1 and 2)! I’m going to share my list and write a bit about each book: the genre and what I loved about it. Let me know what you think of my list and your own favourites this year!
10. If We Were Villains by M L Rio
Genre: mystery
What I liked: dark academia, Shakespeare references, beautiful writing style
9. Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
Genre: historical fiction
What I liked: multi-generational story, complex characters, history of 20th century Japan from a Korean viewpoint
8. Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
Genre: graphic novel, YA romance
What I liked: minimalistic artwork, amazing friend group, the romance!
7. The Sword of Kaigen by M L Wang
Genre: adult fantasy
What I liked: badass mother, interesting structure, character development
6. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Genre: historical fiction
What I liked: another multi-generational story, different perspectives, satisfying ending
5. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Genre: fantasy/retelling
What I liked: romance, portrayal of Achilles, poetic writing style
4. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Genre: YA fantasy
What I liked: ALL the characters, romance, amazing plot/plot twists
3. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Genre: gothic horror
What I liked: unsettling atmosphere, social commentary, main character
2. Circe by Madeline Miller
Genre: fantasy/retelling
What I liked: Greek mythology, setting, character focus, beautiful writing style again!
1. The Dragon Republic by R F Kuang
Genre: adult fantasy
What I liked: battle scenes, characters, plot twists!

Oh you read so many of my favourites this year! 😀 I still need to read “The Dragon Republic” but I’m afraid of starting it. *lol* The plot twists might kill me.

I’m so scared to read The Burning God for that reason! It might be break your heart but it’s definitely worth it I promise 😂
