Weekly Wrap Up: 30/11-06/12

Hey, welcome to my post! Today I’m going to start doing weekly wrap ups on Sundays, so I can look back on my week and you can see what I’m actually reading!

My Week

I’ve had good and bad news this week. Firstly, I got invited to an Oxford interview for History! I can’t believe it!! I wasn’t expecting this at all and I haven’t prepared much, so that’s what I’m going to be focusing on next week. I get very nervous for interviews, but I’m also really excited to talk about the subject I love with experts. Fingers crossed it goes well!

The day after I found out about the interview, I got told that I have to isolate because someone in my class tested positive. Right as lockdown was finishing! Oh well, I have about 10 days left of isolation, so there will still be time for last minute Christmas shopping and seeing my friends. It does mean that all my lessons are online, but I’m used to that by now!

My Week in Books

I finished The Night Swim this week, which I impulsively borrowed from Kindle Lending Library. I might review this later after next week’s craziness, but no promises! I gave this 4 stars because I appreciated the exploration of rape and sexual assault and how difficult it is to get justice, as well as showing the impact of rape on the victims and the people close to them. The mystery part wasn’t as strong for me, but I liked the dual timelines and the inclusion of the podcast. Overall, it was a solid read with lots of insight, but beware of the trigger warnings.

This week I also started Bestiary and I’m about a third of the way through, so I’ll be continuing that next week. It took a while to get into the story with the folktales and magical realism, but it’s also a raw story that holds nothing back. I’m intrigued to see how the rest of the book will develop.

Thanks for reading! How was your week?
