Book Habits Tag!

I’ve seen this tag around YouTube and on blogs, like Booked With Jameelah’s video. Feel free to do this yourself if you want!

  • Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I mostly read at night, so my favourite place to read is my bed! In the summer I like reading in the garden too, but my bed is so warm and cozy and perfect for reading.

  • Bookmark or random piece of paper?

You’re going to hate me for this, but I mostly dog-ear books (I identify with this tiktok)! It’s just so much easier, you don’t have to carry a bookmark around, it won’t fall out and you know the specific page you finished on!

  • Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?

Normally, I give myself a specific time to stop reading, and then I will read to the top paragraph of the page. I prefer stopping at chapters though, because the story flows more when I pick it back up.

  • Do you eat or drink while reading?

A drink is essential for reading. Normally, I’d just have water to stay hydrated, but sometimes I spice it up with some hot chocolate. I can never eat while reading, it’s just messy and distracting for me.

  • Multitasking: music or TV while reading

I have to have background music on when I’m reading! I actually have a lo-fi playlist dedicated for reading, but I can also listen to music with lyrics if they’re quite slow or soft. Any kind of TV will distract me, though.

  • One book at a time or several at once?

I’ve talked about this more in my post on how to read more if you’re busy, but I tend to read two books at once with different media, so a physical book and an audiobook or e-book, for example. I can also read fiction and non-fiction books at the same time. This just helps me differentiate between the two books, and stay immersed in the stories while reading quicker!

  • Reading at home or everywhere?

Nothing will beat reading at home, but I also try to read at college when I have the time, and on long journeys.

  • Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Definitely in my head! I don’t want to annoy everyone around me and it would slow me down so much.

  • Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Never. How can you do that? If a book is really boring, then I might skim read, but at that point I would probably DNF anyway.

  • Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Having a non-broken spine is satisfying, but I love books that really look like they’ve been read and loved, so I don’t mind either way.

  • Do you write in your books?

Only in classics and Shakespeare plays right now, because I regret dropping English Lit. I probably wouldn’t in new books, and I don’t tab either just because I don’t know how to start! I love highlighting quotes on my kindle though.

Thanks for reading this fun tag! Do we have similar reading habits?

  1. Finally someone else who doesn’t skip pages! I also don’t understand why people would do that 😅 Doesn’t it take all the suspense out?
But apart from the fact that you dogear your books (I could never!), we actually have pretty similar reading habits!
