Thanks to @LocalBeeHuntersNook for #5OnMyTBR – a weekly bookish meme where we share 5 books on our TBR list from prompts (which you can find here). The prompt this week is disabled main characters!
I’ve chosen a mix of physically disabled and neurodivergent main characters. I definitely need to read more books with disability representation, and these books all sound great!
Get A Life, Chloe Brown
→ romance
“Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list.” After she escapes being nearly hit by a car, Chloe realises her life has lacked excitement, so she makes a list of things she wants to do to ‘get a life’. She thinks Red, the building’s superintendent can help her cross some items off her list.
I know this (and Take A Hint Dani Brown) is really popular at the moment, so hopefully it lives up to the hype!
The Extraordinaries
→ young adult, fantasy
This follows Nick, a high-schoolers with ADHD and an obsession with superheroes known as extraordinaries. There’s one particular hero, Shadow Star, who Nick has a crush on and after meeting him, he sets out to make himself extraordinary.
There’s so many T J Klune books that I want to read, and The Extraordinaries sounds really fun (and it has LGBTQ+ rep too!!).
A Curse So Dark And Lonely
→ fantasy, romance
From what I know, this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. Harper is a girl with cerebral palsy who is taken to another world plagued by a curse and vicious monster: Rhen was cursed by a witch to repeat his eighteenth birthday until a girl falls in love with him, but he was also cursed to become a beast each season. Harper might be the last chance at saving the kingdom from Rhen.
Normally, I wouldn’t be that interested in a fairy-tale retelling, but I’ve heard such great reviews that I caved and added it to my TBR list.
Full Disclosure
→ young adult, contemporary
Simone is HIV-positive and starting out a new school. As she starts to date Miles, she knows she needs to tell him that she’s positive but is terrified of how he’ll react. Then she receives a note threatening to tell her secret.
I want to meet more contemporary books and this has had great reviews again so I’m looking forward to reading this.
The Kiss Quotient
Stella has never had a serious boyfriend so she hires Michael, a male escort, to show her how to be in a relationship. As time passes, she finds herself developing feelings for him in ways she never experienced.
Again, not something I’d typically pick up but everyone’s said that it’s really cute, and it’s an autism own voices book. Why not try it?
Thanks for reading! Have you read any of these?

I’ve read Get A Life Chloe Brown and The Kiss Quotient and they were both incredible. They were also enlightening on the main characters disabilities and made me understand a few things I didn’t before. I hope you get to enjoy them.

I hope you’ll enjoy all of these books when you’ll read them! So many people recommend TJ Klune books so I should really pick them up! Get A Life, Chloe Brown and A Curse so Dark and Lonely are also on my TBR! Unfortunately, I didn’t like The Kiss Quotient but I hope you’ll like it!
