Thanks to @LocalBeeHuntersNook for #5OnMyTBR – a weekly bookish meme where we share 5 books on our TBR list from prompts (which you can find here). The prompt this week is 2020 releases!
My TBR list is full of new and anticipated releases in 2020, so there’s a few good ones in here!
Lobizona
→ fantasy, young adult
→ 400 pages
→ 4th August 2020
From what I’ve heard, Lobizona is the story of Manuela, an undocumented immigrant who is forced to go on the run when ICE arrests her mother. But she discovers a magical academy, full of South American mythology and folklore.
All the lucky people who got ARCs have really enjoyed the story, and the concept sounds so original and interesting.
Ruinsong
→ fantasy, young adult, LGBTQ+
→ 368 pages
→ 24th November 2020
In Julia Ember’s dark and lush LGBTQ+ romantic fantasy Ruinsong, two young women from rival factions must work together to reunite their country, as they wrestle with their feelings for each other.
In a world where magic is sung, a powerful mage named Cadence has been forced to torture her country’s disgraced nobility at her ruthless queen’s bidding.
But when she is reunited with her childhood friend, a noblewoman with ties to the underground rebellion, she must finally make a choice: Take a stand to free their country from oppression, or follow in the queen’s footsteps and become a monster herself
‘Dark and lush LGBTQ+ romantic fantasy’?? I’m sold. I can’t wait to find out more about the magic being music-related and how that works too!
The Year of the Witching
→ fantasy, horror
→ 368 pages
→ 21st July 2020
The Year of the Witching is a dark feminist fantasy following Immanuelle, a biracial girl in the oppressive, male-dominated and religious society of Bethel. Immanuelle tries to conform but she finds the journal of her dead mother who sought sanctuary with the witches in the forbidden Darkwood and learns the truth about the Church and Bethel.
I’m so ready for this witchy read!
Cemetery Boys
→ fantasy, young adult, LGBTQ+
→ 352 pages
→ 1st September 2020
Cemetery boys is about Yadriel, who wants take on the responsibilities of a brujo. When his family refuses to do the ritual for him to gain magic, thinking it won’t work because he is trans, Yadriel does the ritual on his own. But while he’s trying to find his missing cousin, he summons the spirit of the love interest: a recently dead boy.
The plot sounds amazing and look. At. That. Cover. 🥺 I’m already in love.
The Space Between Worlds
→ science fiction, LGBTQ+
→ 336 pages
→ 4th August 2020
Basically, Cara, a multiverse hopper, can travel to all realities except the ones on which she is alive. Her job is to collect data from each. When one of her versions is murdered, Cara discovers a plot that endangers her entire multiverse.
I’ve heard that there’s also a romance in here, and 2020 is treating us with gay books. Again, all these plots sounds so fresh and intriguing!!
Thanks for reading! What 2020 realese do you want to read?
